Seaside Shelter

For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle and set me high upon a rock.

-Psalm 27:5 NIV

Seaside shelters are being built by homeowners up and down the beaches on the dune line. They are square, round or octagonal gazebo type structures that are connected to the house by a walkway with steps leading to the beach. These shelters provide a shady spot to gaze at the ocean or watch the clouds go by, all while enjoying an ocean breeze, too. It’s a place to sit on the built- in bench to read a book, have a long conversation and enjoy morning coffee or afternoon tea. The shelters are a haven from the hot sun and sudden rain showers that come up this time of year.

The dictionary tells us that the word “shelter” means to find refuge in, to take cover. It also is defined as something that provides protection. In our daily prayer time, it is so important to ask God for His Daily Protection. Not just over us but our loved ones, too. Imagine with all the harmful things out there in the natural world, we need God’s supernatural protection more than ever. God’s protection equips us with His armor. It’s the best way I know of to prepare for the day. Asking God to stand between us and harm and to be our shield is something we can pray about. As parents, we can specifically offer a prayer of protection over our children. He is our shelter. Our refuge. Psalm 91 speaks of protection. We can take cover under God’s shadow knowing that we are sheltered and protected by Him.
