The LightThe Light

I Am the Light of the World. Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12

I recently took this photo of an east coast sunrise and I knew In the quick moments of early morning light that God must be showing off his beauty. My short walk to the beach was timed perfectly and there with many other folks there too. We snapped photo after photo of the brilliance displayed over the horizon. And within a few moments, it was gone, faded into the early morning misty fog and cloudy haze.

We are given moments in conversation that are brief when we can share the Light of Jesus with others, thereby turning their darkness into light. But we are hesitant, thinking we can’t hold our own in a conversation so important More often than not, we let those moments go by without sharing Jesus. We feel the tug, the urgency, the anointing, but still we wrestle about how to talk about Jesus and before long, like the brilliant sunrise, the moment has passed.

Be assured, we don’t have to  exhibit scholarly vocabulary. We don’t have to have all the answers. Maybe we just share our story of how Jesus met us that day and how He has impacted our life. It is that simple. A few weeks ago I drove over to a quiet beach. Just to look out the window and see what’s going on. The police had gathered amongst a crowd of people. I got out and asked what was happening. A dog was chasing a seagull and went into the water and he went far. Too far. No one could see him anymore. The worst was feared. The owner of the dog was crying. “God, what would you have me do?”, I asked. Behind me on the bench was the crying woman. I went to her and asked if I could pray with her. She sobbed and said yes. Other people gathered around us holding hands and some kneeled. We prayed that God would give this pup supernatural strength to return to us and to be above water long enough to be rescued. She was grateful for the prayers. It was clear that God put me in the right place at the right time. I don’t know what happened to the dog but I know that God knows. With my faith, I followed the urge to turn towards that beach road that day when I had so many other things to do. And once there, God used me to pray. It was a divine appointment. Bring light where you can.  Help share the gospel when you can.  If we are willing to be used by Him, He will call upon us. It is our calling.
