The tree grew and became strong, and its top reached to heaven, and it was visible to the end of the whole earth. –Daniel 4:11 ESV
Have you ever seen the sun shining on one side of the street and on the other side it is raining? I don’t know what it is called but I have witnessed it many times. All it takes to leave the rain and step into the sun is one step. Just one step.
I believe when we leave this life and crossover, it is one step we take from life to eternal life. When my father passed several years back he had a dream the night before he died. He awoke and told me about it. He said he could see himself sitting on the “sunny side”. It gave him peace. It was as though he knew he would be okay. Since that time, I have always thought of Heaven to be the “sunny side”.
Today I learned that a friend of mine has taken that one step into eternity. Pat McCleney has left us, but her mark remains on many hearts, including mine. When I came up with the idea to write “Reflections by the Sea”, she was the person at the Coastland Times newspaper that supported my writing and took it up the ranks. Within a few hours, she called to say they would take my writing on a “trial basis”. That was over 10 years ago. Since that time I have seen Pat’s faith in action. Such a humble and kind person that put God first in everything. Trusting her with my dream that day, we became friends and shared many things. I went to Duke to pray for her sister and Pat was at my daddy’s funeral. Our last conversation was recently when she said she may come to visit me and surprise me. Her hearty laugh, the smile in her voice and the way she said my name will never be forgotten. I know she is singing hymns in Heaven like she did so on this earth. As humble as Pat was, she would not want me to write this tribute about her, but her day has come. Like the scripture says, the tree reached heaven and so have you, Pat. So sit on the “sunny side” my friend, and know your seat is well- deserved. Thank you!!
