I know, Lord, that our lives are not our own. We are not able to plan our own course. So correct me, Lord, but please be gentle. Do not correct me in anger, for I would die. Jeremiah 10:23–24 NLT
We are faced with many decisions to make each day. Some are easy and some are hard. What is a decision? It is described as “a conclusion or resolution reached after consideration”.Recently I heard someone say they make decisions based on “what feels right”. There are those that trust themselves only and base choices on emotion. There is a better way. God does give us wisdom and understanding but we are to seek him with each decision. More often than not, God will confirm it too. Well what does that mean? Perhaps in prayer you have a ‘knowing” of what to do and if you ask God to confirm it to make sure it is Him and not you, He will. Wise advice from a godly person, or an article you read, a scripture. God can use anything to get a message to you. Making choices on “what feels right” is often the path of least resistance. The choice that brings pleasure more than challenge. Satisfying the flesh instead of seeking God’s Will. Set aside emotion because it can cloud your judgement when you need to be clear minded. Is emotion bad? Certainly not, but there is a time and place for it.
Many times I feel I have yanked the steering wheel right out of God’s hands in favor of doing things my way. And you might ask, “And how did that work for you”? Very poorly indeed!! Why is it we think we know what is best for us and we skip over the part of consulting God? Is it arrogance or innocence? Could be some of both!! So how to make good wise decisions? Deep prayer is where we start. Giving God the situation and waiting for His reply. Is this decision going to glorify God? Is it legal? Is it honorable? If married, is our spouse in agreement? Can we afford it or have the money to move forward? So many factors to consider. These are just a few key questions to consider. It is said that decisions we may are a choice of values that reflect our life in every way. Something to think about.
