Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life”. John 8:12 ESV
Just a few days ago I saw several Canada geese and their goslings taking a stroll. These beautiful parents were very protective of their young and they “honked” at us when they thought we were getting too close. The trusting little goslings were many and they dutifully followed their parents to the water’s edge, parading in single file, as they walked back and forth across the grass. I suspect that was their training exercise for the day and they mastered it perfectly.
Like a parent teaches their children in the ways of life, so does God take us under his wing to offer protection and guidance. But we must be willing to follow before He can lead. Under God’s guidance, His Word and teachings prepares us for handling the ups and downs that we will surely encounter in our journey. I couldn’t imagine a crisis or problem arising and dealing with it on my own power and skill. Because the truth is we are limited. But operating in faith and putting God’s Word and Promises to work, He gives us hope. We are never alone. But we might think, “all is well now, I’ll get to all that later”. Not a good idea. Learning and storing up God’s Word now means it will be waiting for us when we need it when things aren’t so good. His Word will be in our hearts and mind in our faith storehouse. Like a little gosling follows its parents, it is so much easier in life if we choose to follow God, as opposed to being lost without Him.
