Charting a Course

Charting a CourseCharting a Course Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way
 that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers. –Psalm 1: 1-3

We all have times where we know what we want and we think we know how to get there. Disappointments and setbacks pave the road, a few long stretches of smooth sailing and then more struggles litter our path. When we are our own captain, we only can rely on things in the natural. Things like what we know, what we have heard others say, relying on our own wisdom. Sure, some people struggle more than others but some take the long way around when the straight road would have been so much easier.

What prevents us from tapping into God’s Word for strength and guidance? Is it our own pride, or our independence? Do we really think our way is better? Yes, often times we do and we get ahead of ourselves, things go wrong and we are back to God, asking Him to fix our messes!  Seems everywhere I searched this week for God’s Wisdom, all roads led to this scripture: Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. -Joshua 1:8   Does it mean if I read the Bible, my life will be perfect? No. It does mean that our obedience and our relationship with God will prosper as He prospers us.  Will we be successful in the world’s eyes? Maybe.  Maybe not. But we will be a success in the eyes of the One that matters.
